Ann was born in Manchester, and attended Manchester High School for Girls. From an early age, Ann was determined to train for a profession and read law at University College London, qualifying as a solicitor in 1978.
Ann took inspiration in the legal world from her uncle, Maurice (Tinny) Alexander, who was then senior partner of Alexander Latham, the commercial law firm that later became Eversheds’ Manchester office. She was ultimately attracted to the relatively unknown area of medical negligence by her willingness to fight for the underdog. Ann believes that her position as a woman in a ‘man’s world’ has made her all the more determined to succeed in her choice of career. In 1994, she added an MBA in Legal Practice from Nottingham Trent University Law School to her list of qualifications.
In addition to her various work related activities, Ann undertakes a great deal of work for charities and healthcare organizations. She is on the editorial board of the leading independent journal ‘Health Care Risk Report’ and is on the boards of the national charities, the Patients’ Association and Action against Medical Accidents.
Ann is still based in the North West of England, although she spends time in London and in other parts of the country. She takes an active interest in the North West’s economic and cultural activities and sits on a number of committees including the Board of Pro-Manchester, the Tate Liverpool Development Committee, and the Lowry Arts Centre Development Committee.
In her spare time, Ann enjoys playing tennis and is also trying to find time to ride horses and learn to play golf. Her other interests include all things Italian, especially cookery and trying to learn the language. Ann has two grown-up children and two dogs.
